HENDERSON, Tenn. - 11/16/2007 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University volleyball moved just two wins away from their second ever trip to the NAIA National Tournament by eliminating Freed-Hardeman University (Tenn.) from the NAIA Region XI Volleyball Tournament in Henderson on Friday night. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, the six seed in the tournament, improved to 25-10 on the year. The Lions of Freed-Hardeman, seeded #3 in the tournament, ended their championship season at 30-5.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and Freed-Hardeman split the season series with each team winning twice. However, both Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ wins over Freed-Hardeman came on the Lions home court. Freed-Hardeman topped the Lady Bulldogs once at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and once in the conference tournament in Batesville, Ark. Last week, Freed-Hardeman captured the TranSouth Regular Season and Tournament championships in the conference.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Emilie Ogas with 18 kills. Tiven Catrett added 12 kills and Amanda Hutchison posted 11 kills. Jennifer Martins recorded 41 assists in the match. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ also recorded four blocks in the game with Catret's 1.5 blocks leading the way.
Freed-Hardeman was led by Crissandra Perez with 12 kills, Martha Ray with 33 assists, Karina Souza with 23 digs, and Randal Prince with 1.5 blocks.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a semifinal match versus the #2 seeded Campbellsville University (Ky.) on Saturday, November 17 at 12:00 noon. The match will be at Freed-Hardeman University. The championship match will be at 3:00 pm at Freed-Hardeman with the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ/Campbellsville winner playing the Trevecca Nazarene/Georgetown winner for a trip to the NAIA National Tournament.
