Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Season Ends in Late Game Nailbiter

2002 National Championship Tournament Press Release

In an elimination game at the 22 Annual NAIA Softball National Championship at Wilson Morgan Park in Decatur, Alabama, seventh-seeded Oklahoma Baptist University (41-14) defeated third-seeded Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University (51-7) 1-0 in 10 innings of play. Oklahoma Baptist advances to face Houston Baptist on Monday at 3:00 p.m.

Kena Freeman earned the victory for Oklahoma Baptist to improve her record to 20-7 on the season. Freeman pitched 10 innings allowing only three hits and striking out 11 batters. Amanda Cave led OBU in hitting with three hits. Brooke Bryan went 2-for-4 and started the 10th inning with a single and scored the lone run of the game.

Rachel Murray suffered the loss for the Lady Bulldogs to drop her record to 28-5 on the season. Murray pitched 10 innings allowing only one run and striking out seven batters. No one for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ had more than one hit in the game.

Earlier in the top of the eighth inning, Oklahoma Baptist threatened to score but put no runs on he board. With the bases loaded and only one out, Claudia Klimas hit a line drive to the shortstop, Brandi Park, who made a defensive play, stopping the ball and immediate threw to home plate where there was no play. The Lady Bulldogs then earned a double play by throwing to third base and second base when the Oklahoma Baptist runners failed to advance, thus ending the top of the inning.
