JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/6/2007 - The Â鶹ÊÓƵ University volleyball team got back on the winning track with a 3-0 (30-28, 30-22, 30-21) over Cumberland University (Tenn.). Â鶹ÊÓƵ improved to 12-4 overall and 6-4 in the TranSouth. Cumberland dropped to 18-11 on the season and 5-7 in the league.
Just last week, Â鶹ÊÓƵ and Cumberland locked up in a five-game battle that Â鶹ÊÓƵ would eventually win in Lebanon, Tenn. 3-2 (30-26, 30-19, 26-30, 23-30, 16-14). On this day, the first game was more of the same as the teams swapped points back and forth in the first two games before Â鶹ÊÓƵ took the games 30-28 and 30-22. And after leading 2-0 last week versus Cumberland and seeing that lead evaporate, the Lady Bulldogs made sure the door was shut on this Saturday afternoon as they clinched the victory with a 30-21 win in the third and final game.
Leading Â鶹ÊÓƵ was CJ Neathamer with 12 kills, followed closely by Jackson native Amanda Hutchison Coyle with 11 kills. Jennifer Martins posted 33 assists, while Lindsey Wallach led with 18 digs.
Up next for Â鶹ÊÓƵ is another home TranSouth contest versus Crichton College (Tenn.) on Monday, October 8 at 7:00 pm.
