JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/2/2007 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs posted their fifth win in a row with a 5-1 victory over cross-town rival Lambuth University (Tenn.) 5-1. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 8-3 on the season and are now tied for second place with a 4-1 TranSouth record. Lambuth dropped to 3-6 overall and 2-3 in the league.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Caitlin Zimmerman of Lebanon, Tenn. recorded her second hat-trick of the season with a three goal performance versus Lambuth. Zimmerman scored first in the second minute of play to give Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ the early lead. However, Lambuth answered quickly with a goal from Lauren Wagner in the seventh minute of play. From that point, it was all Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, including more scoring from Zimmerman. She added Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's second goal of the match and her fifth game winning goal of the year in the 26th minute. A score by freshman Eboni Murphy in the 33rd minute put Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ up 3-1 at the half. Zimmerman capped off her big night with a goal at the 55 minute mark, followed by a goal from Kaitlin Dirksen with 23 mintues to play give Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ the 5-1 win. Cara Palsey, Murphy, and Cheslie Tharpe each recorded an assist for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ.
Laura Pla, the TranSouth and NAIA Region XI Defensive player of the week posted four saves between the post. This goal versus Lambuth was the first conference goal Pla has allowed in the past four TranSouth games.
In Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's five match win streak, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has outscored their opponents 17-3. Zimmerman has scored nine of those seventeen goals.
