Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University opened the 2003-04 season with a 75-35 win over Barber-Scotia College in the nightcap of the Lady Bulldog Classic. In the first game of the night, No. 10 Freed-Hardeman defeated Claflin University 68-59.
The Lady Bulldogs got off to a slow start as they led just 25-15 after 15 minutes of play in the first half. However, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ closed out the half with a 9-4 run to take 34-19 halftime lead. In the second half, it was all Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ as the Lady Bulldogs outscored Barber-Scotia 41-16 in the second half to complete the 75-35 win.
For Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, four players tallied double figures in points led by Molly York and Ginger Bryant with 12 apiece. Jessica Henson and Peggy McCain scored 10 points each. Jessica Henson led Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ with eight rebounds. Barber-Scocia was led by Tamiky Hindsman with nine points and a game high 13 rebounds.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot just 38% from the field, including 22% (5-23) from behind the arc. Barber-Scotia managed just 27% shooting on the night.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will play Claflin on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ to close out the Lady Bulldog Classic. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's men will open their season on Saturday night as they play host to Williams Baptist at 8:00 p.m. Freed-Hardeman's women will play Barber-Scotia at 4:00 p.m. at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ.
