Â鶹ÊÓƵ Plays Cumberland To a Tie

The Â鶹ÊÓƵ University soccer team played to their second tie of the season in a 2-2 OT final versus Cumberland University. Â鶹ÊÓƵ's record goes to 9-4-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the TranSouth Conference. Cumberland moves to 3-7-1 overall and 0-2-1 in league play. Â鶹ÊÓƵ can clinch a spot in the TranSouth Conference Tournament in November with a win at home October 21 versus Lyon College.

This game proved to be the battle that was expected. Cumberland jumped out of the gates early with a goal in the first minute of play. Cumberland then added their second goal on a corner kick just 15 minutes later to take a 2-0 lead. However, in the 42nd minute, Alexandria Pereira of Â鶹ÊÓƵ broke through and scored the Bulldog's first goal on an assist by Kyle McDiarmid. Cumberland led 2-1 at halftime.

In the second half, Â鶹ÊÓƵ added a goal on a penaly kick by Pereira to tie the game. The 2-2 scored remain for the rest of regulation and the overtime. In overtime, both teams missed scoring opportunities by hitting the goal post on several occasions.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ's head Coach Darin White said of the game, "This was a battle and I'm proud of the way our guys came back." For Â鶹ÊÓƵ, this marked the fourth time this season that the Bulldogs had come back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game.
