After having won six games in a row, including three straight shutouts, and receiving votes in the NAIA polls for the first time in four years, Â鶹ÊÓƵ University soccer had high expectations as the NAIA's No. 10 ranked team came calling at Â鶹ÊÓƵ's soccer field on Saturday. Despite a great effort against a quality team, Â鶹ÊÓƵ fell to Berry College 2-0 in the first TranSouth Conference Game of the year. Â鶹ÊÓƵ falls to 7-2-1 overall and 0-1 in league play, while Berry improves to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the TranSouth.
Berry struck with their first goal in the 39th minute on a score by Jon Mastrangelo. Daniel Niedzkowski assisted Mastrangelo's header to give Berry a 1-0 lead. That score remained through halftime and the majority of the second half until Berry added some insurance in the 87th minute on a goal by Daniel Ullrich.
Â鶹ÊÓƵ was outshot by Berry in the game 20-11. Berry's goalie, Byron Schueneman recorded six saves while Â鶹ÊÓƵ's Robert Stinson saved 10 shots.
The Bulldogs will play again Wednesday, September 24 at Â鶹ÊÓƵ as they will host TranSouth foe Trevecca Nazarene at 7:00 p.m.
