The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Bulldogs won their opening game of the Casey Jones Village Classic by defeating Brewton-Parker College 3-1. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improves to 2-1-1 on the season. In the early game, Lambuth defeated Fisk University 15-1.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ fell behind early on a Brewton-Parker goal in the 25 minutes into the game and that scored held for the remainder of the first half. Just minutes into the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored twice to take the lead. Last week's NCCAA Player of the Week, Alexandre Pereira, scored on a Marko Pavlovic assist to tie the game. Minutes later, Clovis Simas scored on a Kekec Zivkovic assist to give Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ a lead that they wouldn't give up. With 20 minutes left to play, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ added their third and final goal when Pereira scored his second goal of the day on a penalty kick. Zivkovic recorded his second assist of the night.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Robert Stinson, a native of Dickson, Tennessee, recorded five saves against 10 Brewton-Parker shots. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ outshot Brewton-Parker 12-10 on the night.
The Bulldogs will play against on Saturday in the final day of the Casey Jones Classic at 5 p.m. versus Fisk University. Lambuth will play Brewton-Parker at 7:30 p.m.
