The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University baseball team, ranked No. 20 in the NAIA preseason polls, topped No. 8 Lambuth University 11-0. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ moves to 11-2 on the season while Lambuth falls to 4-7 overall.
The Bulldogs tallied three runs in the bottom of the first and four more in the third to jump out 7-0 early. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ added three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to earn the 11-0 win. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored their 11 runs on 11 hits. Lambuth managed four hits on the day. Neither team committed an error.
For Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, Garrett Pepper went 3-for-3 on the day with three RBI, two runs, and a double. Jason Johnson tallied two hits on the day with three RBI. Johnson's three-run homerun in the bottom of the fifth put the game away for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. Roger Cook and Jed Thomas, along with Pepper and Johnson, each hit doubles. Joel Hysmith, a former Jackson Christian standout, got it all started with a leadoff triple to start the game.
Earning the win for the Bulldogs was former USJ pitcher, Nash Powell. Powell pitched five innings of four hit ball, striking out three and walking two. Todd Winchester of Dyersburg pitched a scoreless final two innings. Lambuth's Hector Garcia took the loss. Garcia gave up three runs and four hits in just one inning. Seth Champion came in a gave up seven runs and six hits in the next 3.1 innings. Alegandro Arteaga pitched the final 1.2 innings giving up one run on one hit.
