No. 15 ranked Trevecca Nazarene University earned a big home win as they upset the No. 2 ranked Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs 73-54. Trevecca Nazarene improves to 19-5 overall and 7-3 in conference play. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ falls to 24-2 overall and 10-1 in league play. This loss for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ snaps their 19-game winning streak dating back to mid November.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led by as many as seven points on a few occasions early in the first half. However, Trevecca went on a 22-2 run to end the half and take a 38-25 lead into the break. Early in the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ went on a 8-0 run to cut the lead to just five and would a few minutes later get within four points. That would be as close as the Lady Bulldogs would get. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, playing without their leading scorer in Jessica Henson, could not muster any offense. Merriweather and Bryant were held in check as they tallied on 12 points combined on the evening. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot only 32% from the field and 24% (6-25) from behind the arc. On the other hand, Trevecca shot over 50% from the field and 40% (6-20) from behind the arc.
Trevecca boasted five players in double figures led by Leslie Golden with a game-high 19 points on 4-of-6 shooting from behind the arc. Jennifer Wilson scored 12 points, Kristen Scoggins and Romona Moga added 11 each, and Lindsey Fly scored 10 points. For Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, only senior Tashekia Brown scored double figures as she tallied 12 points. Laura Mitchell and Christal Merriweather each added nine points. Both teams grabbed 38 rebounds with Fly leading Trevecca with nine and Merriweather leading Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ with eight boards.
