The No. 2 ranked Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Lady Bulldogs tallied their 21st win of the season and their 16th win in a row as they defeated Cumberland University 81-61. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improves to 21-1 overall and 8-0 in the TranSouth, while Cumberland falls to 8-13 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
The first half proved to be the difference in the game as Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ outscored Cumberland 43-23 in the first twenty minutes. Jessica Henson of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored 13 of her team-high 18 points in the first half with 3-of-6 shooting from behind the arc. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Allison Harrison and Christal Merriweather added 15 and 10 points respectively. For Cumberland, Sheree Driver scored a game-high 20 points and made 3-of-5 three pointers in the game. Rachel Derrick added 10 points for Cumberland.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ forced 36 turnovers, 21 in the first half, and scored 45 points off of those turnovers. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 46% from the field including 44% from behind the arc. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ held Cumberland to only 38% shooting, however, Cumberland made 8-of-17 three pointers in the game.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ plays next on Monday, February 3 when they travel to No. 11 North Georgia College. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ defeated North Georgia 89-71 in their meeting earlier in the season.
