ÌýDEFENDING CHAMPION OKLAHOMA CITY SHUTS OUT UNION IN FIRST ROUND ACTIONÌý

ÌýDECATUR, Ala. – In first round action of the 23^rd Annual NAIA Softball National Championship at Wilson Morgan Park in Decatur, Alabama, defending champion Oklahoma City University (44-11) shut out Â鶹ÊÓƵ University (44-12) 2-0 in opening round action after a five-hour rain delay.

ÌýScoreless after five innings of play, the Stars of Oklahoma City led off the sixth inning with a double by Jessica Oleson (2-for-3).Ìý Oleson later scored on a bases-loaded infield error.Ìý The Stars added another run in the top of the seventh inning when Jill Vaughn hit a one-out double.Ìý Pinch-runner Lara Vetoyanis later scored on a single by Kami Brokaw (1-for-2).ÌýÌý

Â鶹ÊÓƵ failed to capitalize on several opportunities by stranding eight runners on base including three in the bottom of the seventh inning.Ìý The Lady Bulldogs were led in hitting by Holly Haycroft (2-for-3).Ìý Jennifer Boily earned the victory for the Stars while Leah Gronberg suffered the loss for Â鶹ÊÓƵ.

ÌýOklahoma City advances to face the winner of the Simon Fraser/Brescia game while Â鶹ÊÓƵ drops into the loser’s bracket to face Warner Southern (25-26) at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
