The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs won both games today to earn third place in the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Classic. After losing two games on Friday, No. 7 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ rallied to defeat No. 21 Athens State University 6-1 in the first game and 7-1 in game two. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improves to 16-4 on the season. In first game of the day, Mid-Continent def. No. 11 Thomas University 8-6.
In Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's first game, the Lady Bulldogs scored a run in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. Then put the game away with three runs in the bottom of the sixth on RBI singles by Amy Mejia and Amanda Dixon. Senior catcher Megan Quarry went 3-for-3 in the game with two runs scored. Mejia tallied a hit and two RBI. Holly Haycraft, Allison Shein, and Amanda Dixon each tallied two hits. Junior All-American Leah Gronberg earned her eighth win of the year to only two losses as she struck out nine batters in seven innings. Kerri Hunter took the loss for Athens State.
Game two featured much of the same for the Lady Bulldogs as they scored seven runs on nine hits. Athens struck first with a run in the top of the first, but scored no more. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ quickly rallied to score two runs in the bottom of the first. Back-to-back doubles by Haycraft and Shein scored Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's first run and got the Lady Bulldogs rolling. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ added four runs in the third and another run in the fourth for the win. Haycraft, Shein, Mejia, and Christina Johnson each tallied two hits for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. Quarry and Johnson recorded two RBI each for the Lady Bulldogs. Freshman pitcher Mary Koso improved to 8-2 on the season. Kate Davidson for Athens State took the loss.
