Before Â鶹ÊÓƵ: Wagner transferred to Â鶹ÊÓƵ from Glendale Community College where he played second base and pitched for two seasons. He prepped at Thunderbird High School in Phoenix. There, Wagner played baseball, football, and basketball. As a senior, he was named first team All-Region, Region Player of the Year, first team All-State, and first team All-Arizona. Wagner posted an 11-1 record on the mound with a 1.05 ERA and 105 strikeouts in 90 innings pitched. Offensively, he hit .385 with five homeruns and six stolen bases. Off the field, Wagner was named Student of the Year as a senior.
